Well friends, here it is! My very first sewn garment and I adore it! I learned so many new skills along the way thanks to a lot of guidance from my MIL. I have to admit, if I was just teaching myself, this pattern would have been a lot to figure out on my own, but if you have someone who can help you or you’re more advanced, you’ll be totally set to go!
This is a pattern is McCall’s M8325 and I made the size medium (normally I wear a small, but based on measurements, the medium made more sense). The pattern comes with 3 different styles and we actually mixed and matched the pintucks from one with the puff sleeves.
If a cute shirt is on your wishlist for spring, I highly recommend making this one! It would look great in a solid or a block print too! You’ll soon find that I have a soft spot for block print fabrics.
What You’ll Need:
Pattern: McCall’s M8325 in your size (each one comes with 3 sizes)
Fabric: Fabric of Choice—I used a lightweight cotton
Thread: in matching color
Extras: Hook & Eye, elastic, needle for hand-sewing the hook and eye on
The pintucks along the front are so pretty and while time-consuming, I’m so glad I learned how to do it. I also learned how to add elastic to the sleeve edges and gathers at the top of the shoulders. Overall, it’s such a cute pattern. After looking through a bunch of McCall’s patterns, I’m realizing that so many styles are so timeless, what makes them more modern or your own style is the fabric you use.
I bought this fabric at Hobby Lobby and TBH, the selection was very meh. Lots of items with printed cartoons on them, ha! I’m learning that finding good fabric in person is actually pretty hard. Thankfully there’s some great shops online. I recently bought some block print fabric from Blackbird Fabrics and it is absolutely stunning!

Overall, I was so happy with how this turned out and so grateful for my MIL for helping me learn about how to cut out a pattern, reading instructions and so many of the sewing basics. Now, I just need it to be spring so I can really wear this cute top!
