Striped Friday Tee from PetiteKnit

Knitting

FILED IN:

I fell in love with this cute striped tee and after making just one garment, I thought let’s go for it! It turned out so so cute, but I will warn you, this one is knit with thin yarn on tiny needles in a broken rib and it was definitely a little ambitious for my second garment.

I’d say this is more of a intermediate to advanced pattern. I ended up having to pull it out countless times, so if you’re new, I’d save this one for when you’ve got more experience. It’s not that it’s impossible, but I don’t want you to get frustrated because I did at many times and almost threw in the towel, but I’m glad I didn’t because the sweet little stripes on this cute top are adorable and so fun to wear!

It took me about 2 months to knit this baby up, but the amount of pride and joy I got when it was complete? NEXT LEVEL. I love wearing it and love how well constructed PetiteKnit’s patterns are. The neck and shoulder shaping take some time and getting used to, but make it so worth it when your final piece fits like a dream.

I used the colors Almond and Pine for the stripes. I do think this could be so fun done in a tone on tone stripe like light pink and brighter pink or pink and red or blue on blue just to spice things up and add some color! But neutrals are also fun. I almost did the Almond with Rust, but I had made another top in similar colors and your girl loves a green.

The hardest part of this for me was the broken rib, especially at the beginning because you can’t see the fabric pattern until you’ve knitted a bit. As you do your increases it adds stitches so the row starts differently each time. For whatever reason this was a concept that was hard for me to figure out at first, but once I did, I was off to the races!

Is my finished top perfect? Nope, but the mistakes are minimal and hard to see and honestly, that’s what gives it that handmade character, right?

I love wearing this with denim because the colors are fun—blue jeans, black jeans, cream jeans or a denim skirt have been my go-to!

The folded collar and Italian sewn bind-off were both new skills for me, but easy enough to figure out. Overall, this is a great project when you feel more advanced and are ready to try something more unique!
